Today I review a few things I learned concerning krill oil health benefits but krill oil is a supplement made by extracting oils from sea animals known as krill.
Krill oil supplies Omega-3 fatty acids like fish oil, but as opposed to fish-oil they’re primarily bound to phospholipids instead of triglycerides.
Phospholipids are the types of lipids that form cellular membranes and this is assumed to be the key reason why Omega-3 essential fatty acids in krill oil tend to be more readily absorbed. Krill oil also contains an antioxidant chemical called astaxanthin, a carotenoid antioxidant with health benefits.
Krill oil is usually consumed for the Omega-3 fatty acids which happen to have an array of therapeutic benefits, including improvements in cancer, heart disease, arthritis, all sorts of mental conditions, immune function, and even more.
Here I am not gonna discuss the health benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids but look at the studies where they specifically supplement with krill oil. All the health advantages that apply to Omega-3 from fish oil supplements or food should apply to krill oil too.
In a study, women were randomized into two groups. The groups consumed 2g daily of either krill oil or fish oil supplements. Krill oil was much more effective than fish-oil in treating the signs of dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome.
A report split patients into groups. One took krill oil daily, and the other fish oil. The krill oil groups reduced total cholesterol, Bad cholesterol and triglycerides, and increased HDL cholesterol, much more than the fish oil group.
They are all common risks for cardiovascular disease, and it seems plausible that krill oil may drastically reduce heart disease risk.
A randomized study sorted into two groups. One group took krill oil daily, and the other took placebo. The krill oil group decreased C-Reactive Protein by significantly while it increased within the placebo group.
It appears to be clear that krill oil is really a much more powerful source of Omega-3 compared to fish oil supplements, possibly due to better absorption or other nutrients in it such as the antioxidant Astaxanthin.
Another reason why krill oil is preferred is that some sources of fish are contaminated. Krill is lower in the food chain and has lower amounts of toxins.
